You don’t have to open up the pages of Stephen King’s On Writing to take away profound inspiration. On the back cover of the hard back copy he says “... put your desk in the corner, and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn’t in the middle of the room. Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the other way around.”
Writing is a major part of Jacqui’s life, but it’s not the only part. Currently training for her black belt in Tae Kwon Do and training for her first marathon, keeping physically fit is a given in the Jacoby household. “I run with my disc man and my own homemade play list of classic rock. It’s the one time when I can tune out the world and really forget about anything and everything that has to be done.”
The martial arts is a bit more personal, though. “I grew up in Los Angeles in the late 70’s when the Hillside Strangler was on the prowl. When other schools in the country were teaching baseball and football, we had the LAPD coming to our school to teach the girls self defense during gym. Self-defense became a life long hobby.”
Says Jacqui: “A couple years ago I came across a quote of Thomas Jefferson’s that I liked so much I cross-stitched it and put in my kitchen window so I’d never forget.”

“It’s wonderful what can be done when you are always doing ...”
That one sentence pretty much sums up how Jacqui Jacoby views her life. So much to do, so much to learn. So little time to do it in. |
