Guest Writers’ Favorite Quotes

JANET EVANOVICH
“I like chocolate milk.”

STELLA CAMERON
“I can do what I need to do.”
(mine from the good old, bad old days of struggle)

DENISE DOMNING
It starts with Frodo saying “I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf replies, (and this is the meat of it for me) “So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

It seems to me that these are words worth living up to--deciding what to do with the time that's given to us rather than forever looking backward and wishing that the past were somehow different.... Although if you move out into quantum physics, then you can actually change the past to be whatever you wish it had been. But that’s another movie--What the Bleep Do We Know?

SUZANNE BROCKMANN
Says Suzanne:
“My favorite quote is from a speech by Winston Churchill, made just hours after Nazi Germany invaded France in May, 1940, and things looked terribly bleak for the United Kingdom. It’s too long to quote in its entirety here, but it's filled with such rousing sentiment as ‘We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender...’”

Suzanne continues: “The speech is filled with such steely determination. It’s wonderfully inspiring, even all these years later.”

“And my other favorite quote is from Mary Chapin Carpenter's song called “The Hard Way.” It goes: ‘We’ve got two lives; one we’re given and the other one we make.’”

KAY LeGRAND
Kay’s favorite quote?
“I figured I could either pay a shrink a fortune to get rid of it, or I could write it down and make a fortune.”
          –Stephen King

PAULINE JONES
Says Pauline:
“The one absolute requirement for me to write...is to be awake.”
          –Isaac Asimov

CHRISTINE JANSSEN
Says Christine:
“To me this says share your manuscript with other writers at your level of competence, enter contests, attend workshops, submit to editors. You’ll never know how high you can soar unless you take the shot.”
